Is Jay Z’s Next Album a Response to Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’?

If there are two sides to every story, Jay Z may be prepping his response to the narrative Beyonce offered with her latest album Lemonade. Speaking with an anonymous insider, Us Weekly is reporting that Jay is recording songs of his own detailing the supposed infidelity that Beyonce repeatedly alludes to him committing.
“Jay is working on an album telling his side of things,” the source, who is reportedly close to the couple, said. In the time since Beyonce released Lemonade, there has been plenty of speculation as to how much of the album is autobiographical, with some pointing to designer Rachel Roy as the alluded to “Becky with the good hair.” Speaking with Us, Beyonce’s father and former manager Mathew Knowles dismisses the notion that the album is enitrely based on past events.
“People want to make it about her,” he said. “Maybe she dug deep and made it about something we all could relate to.” A separate source though tells the magazine that “The album says it all,” noting that “it explains how she and Jay got through their problems. The good outweighed the bad, so she gave him a second chance.”
As one of the premiere celebrity couples in the world, it was at first surprising that Beyonce would make such a private matter the focus of an entire body of work, and it would be stranger still if Jay prolongs the conversation by offering his own rebuttal. Lemonade was clearly a calculated move to pull back the curtain some in the name of new and exciting music, but to have Jay, who hasn’t released an album in nearly three years, create a whole project to defend himself or clear his name seems to serve a lesser purpose.
The grand Carter plan will likely reveal itself in time, with Beyonce and Jay covering the latest issue of Us.
