Gun Used By George Zimmerman To Kill Trayvon Martin Sells For Six Digits
The weapon that killed Trayvon Martin is no longer in the hands of George Zimmerman. The Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol that Zimmerman used when he shot and killed the 17-year-old in 2012 went up for auction on UnitedGunGroup.com and the sale was closed today (May 18), according to News 6.
The auction vetted nearly 200 bids, with the highest offer listed at six digits. The Orlando outlet says that the gun still has the case number written on it from when it was used as evidence in Zimmerman's murder trial. He was found not guilty and acquitted of all charges in 2013.
News 6 claims the highest bid for the weapon was $1138,900, but TMZ says this number was one of many fake bids, which caused the auction house to add a verification system to the sale.
The firearm was first listed on GunBroker.com, but the posting for the auction was taken down. Zimmerman then took the gun to UnitedGunGroup.
"I am honored and humbled to announce the sale of an American firearm icon," Zimmerman wrote in the original listing for the gun. "The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012."
Kendrick Lamar was rumored to be the purchaser of the gun, but that story proved to be false.
In the midst of the news that the gun was going to auction, Tracy Martin, Trayvon Martin's father, released a statement through his foundation, saying he has "no comment on the actions of that person that murdered Trayvon."
Zimmerman then outed the teenager's parents, blaming their lack of parenting skills for his confrontation with their son. Zimmerman maintains his position that he acted in self-defense when he fired the pistol on February 26, 2012.
Eminem Says He Really Does Have OCD In New Genius Annotations
Eminem is a statistic. He is one of 3.3 million people in the United States living with OCD, short for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. At least that's what he claims in a Geniusannotation that he made today (May 18) to his song "The Monster."
The line Eminem refers to is, "Cause the very thing that I love's killing me / And I can't conquer it / My OCD is conking me in the head."
In the official annotation, Slim Shady says, "I really do have O.C.D. it’s not funny bitch."
OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by strict repetitive behavior that results from obsessions causes by stress.
Eminem added 14 total annotations today, including sharing his opinion on the hook to the Southpaw track "Phenomenal."
"Everyone said the chorus was wack to this song," he says, "but I was just trying 2 be phenomenal and get my sing on."
In another "Phenomenal" note, he addresses the rumors of potential titles for his next album, based on the play of his name and the word "empower."
"I don’t know why people have suggested I name my next album Empower or Empart…" he says. "This has been said to me so many times over the years. If I were to name an album with such a stupid play on my name it obviously should be called Empanada…"
These annotations add to the Detroit rapper's previous notes for "Kings Never Die," "Cleanin' Out My Closet" and 42 that he did a year ago.

In the 2012 elections, celebrities in the country were divided along political lines for the governing NDC and the opposition NPP.

Six months to the November polls, Dumelo, Mr. Beautiful and Papa Nii Papafio aka Oesophagus, have already been spotted at events organised by the NDC and President Mahama.
Popular boxer, Bukom Banku has also released a song touting President Mahama’s achievements.
Kanye West Lyrics Used By London Church To Draw People In
London, UK - Kanye West called The Life of Pablo
a "Gospel" album and claimed the theme was inspired by the life of the
apostle Paul. He also compared himself to Jesus by naming his previous
album Yeezus. And now a church in London has replaced the Holy Scriptures with West's lyrics on its promotional billboard.
According to The Telegraph, St. Andrew's Church wrote a lyric from "Only One" on its board in front of the building.
"You're not perfect, but you're not your mistakes," the sign says.
Terry Keens, a 63-year-old volunteer, is responsible for the catchy sayings on the church's lawn to catch the attention of those passing by. She estimates she has posted around 280 quotes for the church.
"I love writing the messages on the boards," she says. "You walk by churches and they have quotes from the Bible and people don’t take any notice. I like to mix it up, it doesn’t matter who said it, it’s about the meaning behind it."
Another saying that has appeared on the sign is "Jesus had two dads and he turned out fine," which is a favorite of vicar Barry Hobson.
"That one was a bit controversial but nevertheless it was a point of discussion," he says.
This isn't the first time a church has utilized Rap to entice people. Last year, Christian City Church in Toronto created a promotional campaign called "For God So Loved The 6," referencing Drake's name for his hometown.

Future Wins Custody Battle Over Ciara
Ciara went to court today (May 17) to ask for full custody of her young son with Future, but came out on the losing end of the battle.
Future was in attendance for the proceedings, TMZ reports, and asked for joint custody of the child, Future Zahir Wilburn, who turns two years old Thursday (May 19). The judge ruled in the Atlanta rapper's favor and rejected Ciara's arguments that he is a bad father and is not present in her son's life.
The singer is now engaged to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who has been seen with Ciara and Future Jr. at football practice and at Dodgers Stadium.
Future and Ciara have an ongoing $15 million lawsuit between them. She first filed the case, seeking damages for slander, libel and defamation. He countersued, saying that her claims are empty and are made out of desperation for attention and to spark her flailing music career.

Curren$y Once Nearly Overdosed On Lil Wayne's Lean
New York City, NY - Curren$y
slept for 18 hours straight after mistakenly downing a bottle of lean
on Lil Wayne's tour bus, he recounted in an interview on the Drink
Champs podcast.
The once Young Money signee explained that he had been playing a game of pick-up basketball with the crew in New Orleans ahead of a long tour bus ride to Miami, and that he quenched his thirst with what he thought was a Hawaiian Punch he found in the bus' fridge, not realizing that Wayne had swapped out the juice for the cough syrup mix.
"So I ran in basketball thirsty and fuckin' downed one of them bitches ... and [Lil Wayne] came on the bus and was like 'Oh Lawd' because he know I don't fuck with it ... He was like 'Spitta, you probably about to die my nigga' because I had drunk the whole thing."
Curren$y says he tried to watch a movie and then went to lay down. He woke up 18 hours later.
"I woke up in Miami on the bus by myself ... They just left me on the bus. They was like, "Yo we really were scared. We left you because we kinda thought you might've been dying."

LeBron James Really Did Get $1 Billion Lifetime Deal From Nike
History was made when LeBron James signed a lifetime deal with Nike back in December. Estimates of the partnership's worth were as much as $1 billion, as hinted by Kanye West's Nike diss track "Facts," but everyone's lips were sealed as to how much the NBA megastar was actually cashing in.
Now, in an interview for the debut issue of GQ Style, James' business manager, Maverick Carter, seemingly says that the Cleveland Cavaliers star's Nike deal really is worth $1 billion. When asked by the reporter how much the deal is worth, Carter says he can't disclose the information, but when questioned specifically about $1 billion, he points his finger skyward, implying that the deal is actually worth more than that.
"It's a fantastic deal," Carter says. "Nike feels great about the deal. That's the most important thing. As great as I feel, as great as LeBron feels—Nike feels fantastic about it. It's the largest deal in the history of the company. Their hope is he makes even more. And our hope is that, too, obviously."
Carter went to high school with James at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio. He has helped the 4-time MVP build his empire, which includes the Nike deal, a Hollywood production company, a scholarship program and the video platform Uninterrupted. He explains how his upbringing has allowed him to become the savvy entrepreneur that he is today.
"It's all a risk. That's the beauty of it," he says of making business decisions. "Some people are just more prepared to take risks than others. I grew up a gambler. That's my name: Maverick. That's what it comes from. My grandmother ran an after-hours joint, and they played cards and shot craps. But you have to know, 'What's my baseline? What's the worst that could happen to me?' And that's what life is all about. Every decision you make, you're simply evaluating risk versus reward."

50 Cent Speaks On His Relationship With Floyd Mayweather
50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather have had a long and interesting relationship.
It hit its low point when Fif decided to mock Mayweather’s ability to read.
Last year they seemed to be friends again. But then 50 blamed him for the collapse of his boxing promotion business.
So where do 50 and Money now stand?
In an interview with Vanity Fair (in which 50 said he couldn’t discuss any of his court cases or his bankruptcy) this is how he characterized his relationship with Mayweather.

Floyd and I are really good friends, but we argue like regular people argue. The difference is when we have disputes, it winds up on CNN or Instagram. I can cuss him out, call him names, say whatever I want to him, but he’s my little brother. Every fighter says he’s going to retire—what’s left when you fight the biggest, most highly anticipated fight? But I do think he’ll fight again. We suspect Mayweather will fight again, too. But will it be against UFC star Conor McGregor?
The Game Speaks On G-Unit Reunion Rumors
The idea that G-Unit will reunite is will be brought up every year for the rest of 50 and Game’s careers. Recently, it was reported by Pharaoh Jackson, an artist signed to Game’s Blood Money, that G-Unit was all getting back together. Jackson even claimed a movie could be in the works. The Internet got excited, but Game says it’s not a reality.
“I don’t know where that came from man, but I can’t see that happening no time in the near future,” Game told HHDX. “You know he’s doing his thing, I’m doing my thing. Banks, Buck and Yayo, they all doing their thing. Everybody just doing they thing … Positivity–it’s all love these days. 2016, we trying to keep everybody alive out there. Feel me?”
Florida Rappers Kill Man So They Can ‘Flash Cash’ At Concert & In Video
Joseph Edward Brandon (aka Waxx), Jonathan Felix (aka Killa), and Dylan Kindred (aka DK) wanted to put together a rap trio.
But the Winter Haven, Florida men didn’t have enough cash to flash in their videos and at their concerts.
Kindred told the other two men that Tyler Macklin — a weed dealer he knew — would be an “easy lick” for “flash cash.”
Kindred waited in the car as Brandon and Felix kicked down Macklin’s door and then killed him for about 300 bucks.
That money was flashed at a show one the men did the next day.
But it would never make it into the video. Kindred got cold feet, and snitched on the two killers.
Brandon and Felix are being charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed burglary and conspiracy. Kindred is being charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, but could face more charges.

Rick Ross & Wingstop Sending Kids To College With Scholarship Program
Washington, D.C. - As Rick Ross keeps
the Maybach Music Group empire and his Wingstop franchises in order,
he’s also involved in an initiative that will help young people get an
education.
In an interview with Bossip, Ross spoke about a new scholarship initiative designed to combat high school dropout rates. Wingstop Foundation, a nonprofit leg of the Wingstop restaurant chain, will award scholarships to employees and young students from urban areas, while funding grants to groups that work to lower dropout rates through education and mentoring.
According to the education advocacy nonprofit GradNation, the work is in high demand. Only 74.6 percent of low-income high school students graduate - 14 percentage points lower than their non-low income students, who graduate at a rate of 89 percent. Statistics also show the high school dropout rate for urban youth at 54 percent.
The details of Ross’ involvement aren’t totally clear, but the Miami-bred rhymer owns multiple Wingstop franchises around the country. He beamed about the initiative in New York City while at the launch of Wingstop, the company’s online clothing and accessories store.
“We see the drop out rates. We know what’s going on. So what’s the biggest thing that we could do?” Ross said. “Wingstop as a company came together and put together an urban scholarship that’s for the underprivileged, that’s educationally based. That’s me talking to my audience. We need to hear this, and we need to bring all these ideas and concepts to the table and start as soon as possible.”

Drake’s ‘Views’ Tops Billboard Album 200 Chart for Second Week in a Row
It might be May, but everything’s coming up OVO. Drake just hosted Saturday Night Live
this past weekend, his beloved Toronto Raptors are moving on to the
Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history, and Views continues to dominate the Billboard
charts. While a staggered release throughout the many music streaming
and purchasing platforms can make timing a little tricky, Billboard is reporting that Views has maintained its top spot on the album charts for the second consecutive week.
While the conversation about the hype, expectations and subsequent results of Views continues to wage on, there is no debating the fact that, commercially, it is one Drake’s most successful releases. Last week, it was reported that Views moved 832,000 physical copies in its first week of release, and the songs on it were streamed a record 245.1 million times in the U.S., bringing its total equivalent sales to around 1.04 million.
With Views expanding its online reach, appearing on Spotify and Tidal just this past Friday (May 13), it is perhaps no surprise that it continues its chart dominating ways, selling another 175,000 physical copies and adding 219,000 equivalent album plays in its second official week. Those figures represent a 79 percent decline from its debut week, but nonetheless add to what has been a huge release for Drake. Views has already become the first album of 2016 to sell more than 1 million copies. Give it up for Drizzy.

Juvenile Punches Man in Waffle House for Slick Comment
The Waffle House can be a go-to dining destination, not just because
they serve fire breakfast all day, but there’s also the possibility of
witnessing a rapper fight a dude. That was the case this past weekend,
as TMZ has obtained footage of Juvenile swinging on another patron over a comment he said to the New Orleans rapper.
As the story goes, Juvie was in a South Carolina Waffle House Friday night (May 13), when a customer, seeing the rapper enter, allegedly said “Juvenile here, here come all the hoes now.” There with his girlfriend and posse, Juve didn’t take too kindly to the comment, interpreting it as disrespect directed toward his girl, and as the above surveillance footage shows, proceeded to deck the guy right by the counter top.
Juvenile was in town for the Legends of Southern Hip Hop tour, and left the scene, as did the other customer, before police showed up. No report was taken as no one was there to file a complaint.
Rappers have made news at Waffle House before, with Tate Kobang shooting a recent video there, and DMX, in 2011, literally mopping the floors in a (likely separate) South Carolina location. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were photographed there alongside John Legend and Chrissy Tiegan early last year, proving that truly anything can happen at Waffle House if the timing is right. Catch Juvenile’s altercation in the video above, and be careful with what’s said to rappers, no matter the time, setting or menu.

Tyga & Kylie Jenner’s Best Instagram Photos
News broke last week that Tyga and longtime girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, had part ways and this time for good. The split came on the cusp of reports that the rapper’s former fiancée and the mother of his son is now pregnant by Jenner’s brother, Rob Kardashian. According to TMZ, the couple broke up just days before the Met Ball. It was reportedly Kylie’s decision but the exact reasoning has yet to come to light.
This past weekend, things got a little testy between the exes when Tyga began shading Kylie on Instagram. Apparently, the reality star was hanging out with PartyNextDoor and the OVO signee decided to throw a picture up on IG. “Diamond battles with @KylieJenner,” captioned a photo of the two showing off their bedazzled watches. A few hours later, T-Raww took his profile and uploaded a post with iced-out rings, bracelets and a watch captioning “Diamond Battles.” The same day, TMZ caught up with the rapper at LAX and had this to say “I think, you know, we are both just focused on our individual lives right now. Sometimes things don’t work out. But, I love her,” he said.

The two have taken breaks in the past. In November, when Tyga celebrated his 26th birthday, Kylie and her family were no where to be found. “They are on a break,” an insider told E! Online around the time. “They were just a week or so ago talking about ‘ever after’ and things got messy this past week. Kylie wants time to just be by her self and do her. Tyga is not giving up as that’s his one and only lady.”
Who knows if this time will be the real deal or not but if so, check out a gallery of the former couple’s best IG posts above.
Is Joe Budden Retiring From Rap?
New York, NY - If you’re a fan of Joe Budden, check out one of his next six shows - they may be your last time getting to see him live.
After a tweet that listed six shows, Budden tweeted a surprising announcement.
“To whom it may concern, these are the last Joe Budden shows ever… Thx to all of you that helped me live out my dreams,” he said.
The announcement is unclear: is this only the end of his solo shows? Is he only done performing, or will he still record music? What about the Slaughterhouse album on Shady Records? DX will keep you updated.
The shows are at the following dates: May 27 at Underground DTSA in Santa Ana, May 28 at The Roxy in Los Angeles, June 2 at The Met Cafe in Rhode Island, June 5 at Cambridge in Monroe, June 13 at B.B. Kings in New York City, and June 15 at B.B. Kings in Washington D.C.
If this is the end of Joe Budden’s career, he leaves behind a memorable one. Coming up in the mixtape scene with DJ Clue, the New Jersey native signed with Def Jam in the early 2000s. His self-titled debut, lead by the Just Blaze-produced single “Pump It Up,” was his only album with the label, but it was all he needed. His vulnerable storytelling and punchline-heavy bars that quickly referenced current events earned him a rabid fanbase that made him one of the most respected underground MCs of the 2000s.
His Mood Muzik mixtape series is likely the crown jewel of his discography before he and Royce Da 5’9” formed Slaughterhouse with Joell Ortiz and KXNG Crooked in 2008. The group released work independently until signing with Shady Records; their second album with the label, executive produced by Just Blaze, has not been released yet. Budden’s last solo record, All Love Lost, came out last year.
But his music has been less popular in recent years, compared to his role as a reality TV star. His visibility increased the most as a star on the VH1 show Love & Hip Hop: New York, which chronicled his relationship with model Tahiry in seasons 3 and 4.
If this is the end of Joe Budden’s career, how would you remember it? What are your favorite Budden moments over the years? How do you feel about his possible retirement? Let us know in the comments.

Master P Set To Portray Wrongfully Convicted Inmate In New Film
Los Angeles, CA - Master P’s spent much of 2016 pushing his newest act, No Limit Boys and prepping his fans for the 2017 launch of his biopic, Ice Cream Man: King Of The South. (HipHopDX announced exclusively that Queen Latifah will star in the film as Master P’s mother.) But apparently The Colonel has much more on his rapidly filling plate.
Up next, a starring role in the Philippe Diaz directed Angola 1, 2 & 3, which details the life of Robert King, a wrongfully convicted inmate who spent 29 years in solitary confinement in Louisiana's notorious prison before his case was overturned in 2001.
“This is a very important story to me since I come from New Orleans and my brother [C-Murder] is fighting for his life in Angola for a crime he did not commit,” Master P said via statement. “But it is also an important story for the entire African-American community. It has been clear for decades that these men lost their lives to a system that persecuted them because they were black. If they were white, this never could have happened. Their story made me realize that many men imprisoned in Angola may be innocent for the crimes they are accused of.” Angola 1, 2, & 3 is distributed by Cinema Libre and financed in association with AGG Entertainment along with China’s GAIA Studio. Filming is scheduled to begin on August 15.
According to the statement, Cinema Libre promises that a significant portion of the profits will go to the Angola 3 (Robert King, Albert Woodfox and Herman Wallace’s estate).
In a recent conversation with HipHopDX, P detailed his upcoming biopic and explained that the film will show the reasons why he declined to acquire Cash Money from Birdman.

Rick Ross Mentors Adrien Broner For About Billions Music Label
Adrien Broner does more than just take on the world's top fighters in the boxing ring. He also is ready to challenge the music industry with his own record label, About Billions. The Ohio native has been friends with Rick Ross for a while and, in an interview with AllHipHop, the boxer explains the Maybach Music Group boss's involvement in the label.
"Ross is definitely coming on board," he says, wearing an MMG chain. "He's gonna help us push through. He's a mentor of mine. Ross just actually hit me up not too long ago. We gonna be hooking up in a minute and we're going to be doing some big things this year."
Ross walked Broner to the ring when he fought Carlos Molina on the undercard for Floyd Mayweather's first fight against Marcos Maidana.
In regards to his strained relationship with Mayweather, Broner says the two have a long road towards reconciliation. The two have traded shots in interviews and on social media after having a fallout. Money May has called his former mentee a "snake," "broke" and aired out his legal troubles to the public.

"There's some things that he'd say about me that I'd never say about him ever," Broner says. "I don't give a fuck what we go through. I don't care if I seen a problem or if he got an addiction, whatever, I would never put it on record, none of that because the love I got for him. Ever, I won't ever do it. People love is different. To him, he probably felt like he ain't do nothing wrong. But at the end of the day, I know he really got genuine love for me."
Mayweather retired from the sport after he defeated Andre Berto in September. Broner is asked if he could bring the champion back to the ring.
"If he wanted to fight me, we would fight," he says. "If he wanted to spar with me, we woulda been sparred. I been told him I wanted to spar him. If he wanted to get in the ring with me, we woulda been did it. We woulda been did it. Like I said before, I don't need him. He don't need me. Would I like for this dumbass shit to be over, absolutely. Because at the end of the day, we're both African American and the power we both have, we can put it together and do some crazy things, but right now, no."
Young Thug Sued For Being No-Show For Contest Winner
With the popularity of his recent mixtapes and a feature on Kanye West's The Life of Pablo album, Young Thug stays winning. However, TMZ reports that the Atlanta rapper will not show love to the winner of a contest who was promised a Young Thug feature.
WeThePlugg.com is suing Thugger for $14,500 for bailing on the company after promising to record a feature for its social media contest winner. In the case, which was filed in Georgia, the company says it gave the rapper $5,000 up front and told him he would get an additional $10,000 after recording the verse.

After the contest closed, Young Thug did not respond to calls to make the verse. When getting in contact with the rapper's manager, WeThePlugg was told Thug was no longer interested in being a part of the project.
The contest winner still recorded a new song through WeThePlugg, but did not get the promised Thug feature.
The company is suing for the down payment and damages.

(The original article in this thread was published March 10, 2016. It is as follows.)Kutt Calhoun is announcing his "The Break For Gold Tour” exclusively through HipHopDX.
The forthcoming trek, which is slated to
kick off June 16 at Jake’s in Lubbock, Texas and conclude July 2 at The
Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts, is the Kansas City rapper’s second headlining tour in less than a year.
"This opportunity to tour for a second
time means everything to me being where I came from and where I'm at
now,” Kutt Calhoun, who embarked upon his “The Own My Own Tour” last year, says
during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. "The fact that I'm able to
book a two-month stint off of the name I've established and the fan
base that are wanting to see me all over the United States is amazing,
not to mention being able to build with two up-and-coming talents like
Whitney and Sincerely Collins. At this point in my career, touring is
detrimental next to physical and digital sales along with strong social
media presence, so the fact that I'm able to succeed on my own along
with my Black Gold Entertainment Family is a beautiful feeling.”
Kutt Calhoun left longtime recording home Strange Music in September 2014. He launched his Black Gold Entertainment and released the Kuttin Loose EP July 10, 2015.
Now as the flagship artist of his own company, he’s seen the ups and downs of being a headlining act.
“The upside is that you feel you've
reached a status in your career to where you're able to showcase at the
end of an event where the fans mainly came for you in support of your
music and their belief in what you do and stand for, which is an amazing
feeling,” says Kutt Calhoun, who will be joined on "The Break For Gold
Tour” by Whitney Peyton and Sincerely Collins. "Nonetheless, I'm going to rock the crowd whether it's 20 or 2,000 people in the room."
Nicki Minaj Claims Safaree Is Suing Her After Celebrating Meek Mill's Birthday
Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels have had a messy public breakup over the past few years and the tremors of their fallout continue. Minaj seems happy with her new boyfriend, Meek Mill, and celebrated his 29th birthday this past weekend by giving him a Rolex watch.
Apparently, the Pinkprint rapper's public display of happiness is too much for SB to handle and he has sued Minaj, she reports on Twitter.
"Tweeted on the 5th that the 6th was my baby's bday. Celebrated on the 6th for his bday (publicly). Served w/a lawsuit on the 9th. lol," she writes. "Two years later this poor excuse of a man is suing me & claiming to have been physically & emotionally abused. Lol. He's so miserable."
In a lengthy chain of posts, Minaj expressed her frustration at her ex-boyfriend and says he still emails her even though she and Meek Mill have asked him to stop.
Safaree responded with an Instagram video of himself with the paparazzi asking him why he's fighting with Minaj.
"All these people bothering me," he says with his shades on and fur hood up before he turns the camera to scan the crowd. He quickly deleted the post.
Back in November, SB was reportedly planning on suing Minaj for unpaid royalties. He is listed as is listed as "executive producer" on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and its follow-up, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded The Re-Up. He is also credited as "A&R Coordinator" on Minaj's most recent release, The Pinkprint.

Snoop Dogg Reboots DoggyStyle Records
Twenty years after its inception, DoggyStyle Records is ready to re-enter the rap game. Snoop Dogg's label announced its first signee, Atlanta rapper Clay James, to reboot the company.
The Doggfather founded DoggyStyle Records in 1995 after the success of his 1993 album of the same name. He released his Welcome To Tha Church series under the label in the mid-2000s.
James tells Sway's Universe that he connected with the DoggyStyle team at SXSW after he performed. He says he is now preparing an EP and visuals for his previously released singles.
"I was greeted by Yung Zeke, JU, and Young Hunnid of the Dawg Crew Ent. collective, who are direct business affiliates of Snoop Dogg," he says. "They liked my performance and formed an organic relationship with me. We kept in touch after SXSW, and one day they told me how they brought my name up to Pocket Norwood, an A&R over at DoggyStyle Records. Pocket asked me to send some music to him, and he played it for Snoop Dogg. Now here we are!”

The 2016 edition of the VGMAs had somewhat shocking occurrences as to who won what in the various categories in which these deserving Ghanaian and non Ghanaian artistes were nominated.
The VGMAs had several categories and in each section of the nominations, some musicians stood a greater chance of winning but lost whereas in other categories some musicians were least expected to win took home awards.
At the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Atom’s “Ye wo krom” took everyone by surprise as it was awarded Hiplife song of the year. He beat out strong competition from Donzy (Crusade ft Kofi Kinaata), E.L (Koko), Wisa ( Ekiki me ft Luther) and VVIP (Skolom ft Sena Dagadu).
Mzvee’s award Best Female Vocalist award amazed a lot of the audience as they all expected Efya to win since she’s been winning the category for some years now.
In the Best Male Vocalist category one may have thought Afriyie, De Voice, Mugeez or Akwaboah Jnr could have won in the category but the legendary Pat Thomas proved his longevity in the industry to these young male vocalists.
Bisa Kdei on the night also won several awards but what came as a shocker was his Best Album of the year award. Although the Verified album (Mzvee), Mary (Sarkodie), Elorm (E.L) and SP Kofi Sarpong’s “I Believe” album were in the same category Bisa Kdei managed to take home the award with his “Breakthrough” album.
Though everyone rooted for SP Kofi Sarpong’s “Hour by hour” to win in the Gospel song of the year category, Nicholas Omane Acheampong didn’t make that dream a reality.
Kofi Kinaata proved his talent in this highly competitive category, Song writer of the year. The category had music giants like Rex Omar, Knii LAnte, Obrafour, Stonebwoy and Mzvee but Kofi defied all the odds with his “Susuka” hit.
Being the 17th edition the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards it took off in a grand style and some errors in the past years were rectified. Speaking about the red carpets both nominees and patrons looked their very best. The most interesting part of this year’s edition is that, the event stated on time and closed just on time.

The Game Might Be Reuniting With G-Unit
As far as hip-hop squabbles, the riff between 50 Cent and former
G-Unit member The Game is often categorized as one of hip-hop’s most
unfortunate beefs. But to the delight of G-Unit fans, the beef could
finally be coming to an end.
A single Instagram post featuring Dr. Dre and Game is at the root of the reunion rumors. The Game’s Blood Money Entertainment signee Pharaoh Jackson posted a video last night with Game and Dre vibing in the studio and the caption is what has people talking.
“The BEATLES AKA “G-UNIT” are joining forces again,” wrote Pharaoh. “STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON” the movie captivated the Globe…. NOW what’s gone happen when we do the “G-UNIT” movie with all the drama… G-UNIT aka the Hip-Hop Beatles TOOK OVER THE WORLD, BUT EGOS CAUSED THEM TO BREAK UP PREMATURELY.”
Fif and Game’s beef started back in 2005 when Fif felt Game’s budding disloyalty to G-Unit over not participating in the beefs with other rappers. Amid diss records, Hot 97 building bum-rushes and those “G-UNot” shirts, the two rappers have circled around each other in the rap world for years but never really acknowledged whether the beef between them was over. G-Unit famously reunited in the summer of 2014 during an appearance at Summer Jam. That reunion was missing Game, of course, but was a coming out of sorts for the newest member, New Orleans spitter Kidd Kidd.
The last release from G-Unit as a crew came in March of 2015 when they dropped the mixtape The Beast Is G-Unit. And just last month it was reported that the “I’m The Man” MC and the West Coast’s top gun partied peacefully in the same Los Angeles club. These are all signs that the hatchet might finally be buried.
Could a full-on G-Unit reunion be in hip-hop’s future? Check out the Instagram post below and judge for yourself.
