Two renowned Ghana movie personalities, David Dontoh and Abeiku Sagoe
have disclosed that they will contest the presidency of the Actors
Guild of Ghana.
The two believe that they have what it takes to turn around the fortunes of the Guild, which has currently lost its spark.
Both gentlemen made their intentions known exclusively on Rhythmz A-Z on Joy FM with Mamavi Owusu-Aboagye Saturday.
The
Ghana Actors Guild, an umbrella body for actors in the country, has
over the years come under a lot of criticisms from stakeholders who say
the guild is not attractive enough.
After the death of its president, Rev Eddie Coffie last year, the Guild is still yet to elect a new leader.
Actor John Dumelo, who is a member of the Guild, during an interview
with Joy News said the Guild needs youthful leadership to be vibrant
again.
Popular Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo also commenting on
the current state of the Guild also said the Ghana Actors Guild has lost
its relevance.
“I am sorry to say that even though we have a
Guild it is not as vibrant as I would have wished it to be, I believe it
is not that good,” he told MzGee on Hitz FM’s Entertainment This Week.
As
the Guild prepares to hold elections in May this year, with the hope of
saving its ship from sinking, Mr Dontoh and Mr. Sagoe believe they have
what it takes to make things better.
