Best Songs of the Week From Drake, Nipsey Hussle, Royce da 5’9″ and More
It’s been a wild week of music, from Drake leaks to Kanye leaks and all the official music we got this week, too.
Nipsey Hussle and YG dropped a bomb on the people this week with “FDT,” echoing sentiments many rappers hold about the Donald. There are so many great parts about this song – the back and forth between Nip and YG, the fact that both of these guys are dropping new shit in the first place, the subtle but hypnotic beat. This track hits on all cylinders.
Drake sparked people’s interest this week, however inadvertently. A song called “Controlla” featuring OVO’s resident dancehall artist Popcaan popped up online, and it immediately reminded people of another wildly popular collab Drake was on this year – “Work” with Rihanna. Either way, the island vibes aren’t to be missed on this one.
On the grimier side of things, Royce da 5’9″ decided to stop fucking around with these rappers and drop his Trust the Shooter mixtape, filled with more bars than your neighborhood candy store. A select cut was a snippet with Black Thought, but they were just teasing us; Royce soon dropped the full version, seeing how people were practically begging for it. It’s also on trend for Royce – with Layers (and another album) dropping in the near future, the Detroit rapper is giving his fans exactly what they want.
Newcomers Tunji Ige and KR also heat up the spot, offering up some chill ass sounds over incredible production by the likes of Noah Breakfast and Dem Jointz, respectively.
And to finish up – Conway, the gully street rapper form Buffalo, NY. Pay attention to this dude. He’s nice.
