Gun Battle: Police shoot armed robber dead; others on the run
Tema Police Command has mounted a manhunt for four armed robbers who engaged them in gun battle at Sakumono beach in Community 3 on Easter Monday.
The robbers, numbering about five, opened fire at the police for attempting to arrest them following a tipoff.
The patrol team then responded with fire and shot one of the armed robbers who were escaping the scene.
The patrol team according to Adom News’ Kwame Yankah was providing security at Sakumono beach, Community 3 on Easter Monday.
A search conducted on the robber revealed a locally manufactured pistol, an empty AS cartridge and lady’s purse with two Samsung mobile phones.
A statement signed by Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Juliana Obeng, indicated that, the command put in place strategies to ward off any security threat before, during and after the Easter festivities.
“The plan worked to near perfection until some gunmen decided to attack merrymakers at Sakumono beach,” she said.
According to her, the unidentified robber was taken to Police hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead by doctors on arrival.
The body has since been deposited at the Police morgue for autopsy and preservation.
Tema Regional Command is appealing to the public to help identify the deceased and whereabouts of his accomplices.
